This interactive web application has been designed to visualize the effect of direct pressures on trends of common birds and butterflies in Europe and the spatialisation of changes in those trends among future scenarios across Europe. This study was made possible by the countless hours of field monitoring carried out by volunteers, and the collection and synthesis work of national coordinators linked to PECBMS and eBMS.
This interactive application is composed of five tabs that focus on the visualisation of several analysis conducted in this paper. The first tab (Trends by region) presents the past and projected trends for groups of common birds and butterflies (All common birds, Farmland birds, Forest birds, All common butterflies, Grassland butterflies, Woodland butterflies) across 24 biophysical regions in Europe. The second tab (Pressures in Europe) shows the estimates of the effects of direct pressures on the trend of each species. The third tab (Pressures by region) provides an average estimate of direct pressures on the six groups of common birds and butterflies (All common birds, Farmland birds, Forest birds, All common butterflies, Grassland butterflies, Woodland butterflies) across 24 biophysical regions in Europe. The fourth tab (Trends of common species) displays the observed trend between 2000 and 2021 for each species analysed. The fifth tab (Scenarios) presents the average trend for each group of species in each scenario.
